Waterfront offer tips on raising investment at Incubate London
Mar 11, 2014
Waterfront corporate solicitor, Patrick Peake, took part in a recent panel discussion hosted by Incubate London at the Hult Business School in Chancery Lane. Fellow speakers were Simon Dixon of Bank to the Future and Kieran Garvey of Crowdcube.
The event was held in front of a number of students and budding entrepreneurs who were there to hear about how to raise investment for their start ups while at the same time avoiding the legal pitfalls along the way. Each speaker gave a short presentation and participated in a subsequent Q&A which dealt with each other’s experiences of the investment process. Patrick’s talk focused on the main legal issues you would expect to see when getting investment, whether via angel investors or from a crowd funding site.
Patrick said, “It was really good to get out there and meet lots of people with great ideas but who just need a steer in the right direction. At Waterfront, we are always conscious of start up pressures. However, at the same time, amidst the excitement of getting investment, people often forget about the legal documentation until it is too late. Hopefully, some of those who attended took away the importance of reading documents before signing them! It was a great evening and I am really grateful to Incubate London for the invitation.”
