Vacancy - Trainee Solicitor/Paralegal

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a trainee solicitor or paralegal to join Waterfront Law, where their focus will be in the firm’s strong and growing employment practice.  Waterfront was established over 20 years ago to provide legal services to the tech industry and now has clients in many different sectors, from leading global companies to SMEs and start-ups, as well as individuals.

Acting for employers and employees, you will assist the team with both administrative and legal work during the life of each matter. The work of the team includes the full range of tribunal litigation, High Court proceedings and non-contentious advisory and transactional work.  You will join two partners and an associate and the right candidate will be expected to learn quickly through the immediate practical experience we can offer as a small team.  To succeed in this role, you will:

  1. Show us a real interest in employment law and a desire to learn more.
  2. Be able to pay attention to detail whilst marshalling and prioritising different work.
  3. Have a strong academic record with the ability to gain an excellent technical knowledge of the law and commercial awareness and acumen.
  4. Be pro-active, responsive and offer high levels of service which build client relationships.
  5. Have at least an LLB or GDL and some experience of working in HR or employment law.

The salary on offer is expected to be £25,000 to £30,000 depending on experience. The role is likely to be based mainly from home, with the expectation of no more than one or two days a week in our offices near Borough Market in London and applications for part-time hours are welcome.

Although the focus of this role will be the employment team, you can also expect to work in our other areas of expertise: intellectual property disputes, corporate and commercial.

To apply, please send your CV and covering letter to careers@waterfront.law.  No agencies please.

Please note we are unfortunately unable to directly respond to unsuccessful applicants which is due to the volume of applications we receive.

An exciting opportunity for a 0-3 year PQE solicitor to join our boutique practice to work primarily in a contentious IP role. Our client base is diverse, ranging from the very small to larger entities, including international.

The role would ideally suit an ambitious junior lawyer who wants to specialise in IP litigation and is comfortable with taking on immediate responsibility on quality IP work matters in a small team.

You will need to:

  • be a first rate lawyer who is up-to-speed with case law and has a proven track record (depending on experience) and/or interest  contentious copyright, trade mark, breach of confidence, patent and design right matters;
  • enjoy client contact and value each client no matter how small;
  • be prepared to get involved in non-IP disputes where client needs dictate (such as contract disputes);
  • be an intuitive self starter who wants to actively participate in the growth of a law firm, manage their own matters and actively help trainees and junior solicitors to become better lawyers;
  • enjoy working in a team and both give the very best to, and get the very best from, your colleagues;
  • be excited by the prospect of getting involved in marketing the firm and developing and growing your own client base in a supportive environment;
  • dislike environments that stifle initiative and impose rigid structures and micromanagement; and
  • be enthusiastic about providing legal services in a new way that is more laid back and accessible to clients, but no less professional.

Waterfront is a young, dynamic and exciting firm where each individual can really make an impact. We pride ourselves on being able to offer a better work-life balance than is offered at more traditional city firms, working in an open plan office, which promotes an exceptionally collaborative and friendly environment.

We offer a competitive salary, dependent on experience, as well as access to the firm’s pension scheme, private medical insurance and season ticket loan.

Direct applications from candidates are encouraged. Applications consisting of a CV and covering letter should be sent to careers@waterfront.law.
