Leading edtech startup, Virtual Internships, has been backed by Sequoia Capital, and selected to be part of its Surge 05 Program, which helps to build enduring companies for the future, who are reimagining the way we live, work and learn in a digitized, globalized, borderless world.

Based in the UK, USA and Vietnam, Virtual Internships incorporates technology and best practices from the world of remote work, to redesign the internship experience for all stakeholders including students, universities and companies. The company was founded in 2018 by Oxford and Cambridge graduates Daniel Nivern and Edward Holroyd Pearce, who together have over 15 years of experience in the area of international education.

The Waterfront team advising on the deal was led by partner Matt Cunningham and included associate Charlotte Lang

Daniel Nivern, co-founder and CEO, said “We did our own due diligence in advance of choosing Waterfront, and spoke to a number of firms. In the end, we have been very pleased with our choice and feel that it matches our own approach of aiming to be strong but conciliatory where possible.”

Matt Cunningham said; "We were really pleased to be able to support Virtual Internships in relation to their recent investment round. Dan, Ed and the rest team are a pleasure to work with, and they’ve chosen exactly the right time to launch this innovative new business. We’re looking forward to assisting them with the next stage of their journey.”
